Furthermore, being able to show the customer that the experts say there's no good technical answer, might be the leverage the consultant needs to get them to address it in a more effective way. That serves the customer better and doesn't leave the consultant exposed to later accusations that "you told us this was secure".
At the least have a paper trail showing you actually advised the customer they were taking the wrong approach.
